Grieving the past... - Shovel Knight

Description

Here's something totally different from what I usually draw. This picture here is based on a scene from the game Shovel Knight; in this case, the scene is from the recent update story known as Specter of Torment.

*Spoilers for anyone who hasn't played Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment!!*

At the end of Specter of Torment, once Specter Knight collects all of the red skulls and brings them to a skeleton dude named Red, Red decides to bring Specter Knight to this abandoned part of the Tower of Fate, where there's a bit of wreckage. Red then tells Specter Knight that he found this old armor and figures that he should give it to Specter Knight as thanks for collecting all of the skulls. Unknown to Red, this area is actually were Specter Knight became the undead knight he is today, thanks to the Enchantress. The armor that was given to him by Red was his old armor, back when he was still among the living. It was here where Specter Knight's greed for a certain treasure caused him to accidentally kill his old friend, Luan. Seeing this armor again made him remember the past and what happened that unfortunate night. Nonetheless, he thanks Red for giving him the armor. Red then walks off while Specter Knight holds his own armor in his possession.

The main differences with my picture (aside from the fact that none of this is 8-bit) and the scene from the game would be Specter Knight kneeling on the ground as he holds his armor in his arms. This shows that he's grieving, and perhaps this could happen when Red is just about to leave the room. The other difference is that Red, while he appeared to be unaware of who owned that armor, is seen with a sad expression, as if he actually knew what happened to Specter Knight and just didn't want to say anything about it. The reason why I drew these two like this is because I see Specter Knight and Red as sort of friends. I mean, Specter Knight helped him reunite with his wife, and Red provided him with useful items throughout the story. They're kind of a team, in a way.

I decided to draw this scene for three reasons. 1: This scene stuck out to me, so I wanted to draw my version of it. 2: Red's a neat character, and so is Specter Knight, so I wanted to draw them in a picture together. I mean, come on; Red's like a friendly, more snazzy version of the Red Skull. lol And 3: There's actually an art contest going on right now for any artwork that involves something from Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment, so I figured I could kill three birds with one stone here.

When it comes to the contest, there's one grand prize winner, three runner ups, and a whopping ten consolation winners. I'm hoping that I can be at least one of the winners! No matter what place I come in when it comes to winning, I get the prize that I want, which is a physical copy of Shovel Knight on whatever system I choose. In this case, I'm aiming to get it for the Nintendo Switch. I don't have that system yet (since it's so freakin' popular), but once I do, I'd like to get Shovel Knight for it. I'll buy it for the system if I have to, but with how expensive that thing is, and the fact that I still need to buy Breath of the Wild for it, I'd like to save a little bit of money.

Information on the art contest can be seen here if you're interested in checking it out, and down below is my original drawing before I edited it on Gimp. Wish me luck, if you want! ^^

A satisfying conclusion to my favourite Shovel Knight campaign.

And it’s hard to believe this wasnt made within the Specter of Torment development team - The style is uncanny! Awesome stuff.
